# Introduction

PayEngine API is organized around REST; our API has predictable resource-oriented URLs, uses JSON for requests and responses, and standard HTTP response codes, authentication, and verbs.

There are a few exceptions where an API is explicitly designed to return a specific kind of resource. Those will be noted within the documentation.
